The Beginning

I thought I'll tell you a little about myself. My name is Jeff, and I'm a dance photographer in Chicago.

So, why dance photography specifically? It came by accident. I was on a shoot with a model, and noticed the model moving and posing so gracefully and effortlessly. So we got to chit chat a little in between shoots and she mentioned she did ballet for about 12 years. 

At that time, I didn't know ballet photography was a thing. It really peaked my interest, and I set out to find a ballet dancer and see what the fuss was about. 

And I was hooked!

Why Dancers Specifically?

What I really love and respect about dancers...specifically ballet dancers, is the focus on technique. As someone with a martial arts background, technique is extremely important, and it makes shooting dancers that much more challenging...which is something I'm more than happy to tackle head on.  

There is a rush from nailing a shot that is both aesthetically AND technically perfect!

Oh and do I even have to mention how the dancers can do absolutely incredible...almost impossible poses, with ease?

Since then, I have done dance shoots internationally, working with ballet dancers from different cultural backgrounds in different countries.  

I absolutely love it!

My goal is to learn more about dance, improve my photographic technique, so I can take photographs that capture people's imagination and help dancers create stunning portfolios that will help them land their auditions!
